SERVANTS OF THE LIVING GOD

"O Daniel , servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?" (Dan. 6:20.) What a picture! Here the king, who had been trapped by the jealousy of others into putting his most valued worker and friend into the den of lions, is hopeful that the living God of Daniel has helped him. Daniel's enemies planned his death, but he served the living God, and when one does that, he is protected. Daniel's answer was, "O king, live for ever." The good which the king expressed, as well as the good which Daniel knew, would live forever.

Daniel was the servant of the living God, not the servant of the lifeless gods of mortal mind; the servant of Love, not of hate; of Spirit, not of matter; of good, not of evil; of forgiveness, not of revenge; of joy, not of sorrow. Expressing the qualities of God, how could he be otherwise than safe?

Mary Baker Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 514), "Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions' den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless." Who is there who has not been in a lions' den of his own creating? Who is there who has not violated some of the so-called physical laws of health or of life in matter? But these are not the laws of God; they are only the beliefs of mortal mind.
