THE FIELD OF CONSCIOUSNESS

Consciousness cannot be lost. If it were possible to lose consciousness, it would mean that man could lose God. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Unity of Good" (p. 24), "All consciousness is Mind; and Mind is God,—an infinite, and not a finite consciousness. This consciousness is reflected in individual consciousness, or man, whose source is infinite Mind." Thus the belief that consciousness can be interfered with in any way is untrue.

In Christian Science, God and Mind are synonymous terms, and since all consciousness is Mind, there cannot be a moment when it does not express the divine, creative intelligence.

Mortals appear to experience differing phases of evil, sin, disease, death. These errors seem to enter the human consciousness and cause loss, stress, or disturbance, but they do not touch real consciousness, for let us remember the absolute truth that "all consciousness is Mind; and Mind is God,—an infinite, and not a finite consciousness." This fact is a law of liberation to the finite sense of consciousness and frees humanity from evil. The only way evil appears to work is by persuading its victim that it is in possession of his consciousness and can shut out the God-given attributes of Mind—health, holiness, and immortality.
