As Christian Scientists we each...
As Christian Scientists we each have a storehouse of experiences, the true substance of which is continually being revealed to us in some new light and is ours to draw upon to bless ourselves and others. With a very deep sense of gratitude for all the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science, I should like to present this testimony.
I am only just beginning to appreciate what a large part my being a member of The Mother Church played in the protection and healing which I experienced during World War II In 1941, I voluntarily joined His Majesty's Forces and soon felt the need to identify myself with a more spiritual sense of organization. This desire led me to membership in The Mother Church, and I see now that the course of my whole life was thereby changed.
One of the first problems I had to face was the fact that I had been placed in the medical section. After a vain effort to secure a transfer I decided that I could be in this position for God's purpose only, and that if there was an adjustment to be made, He would make it in His own time and way. Soon afterward I was transferred to a radar wing on the most vulnerable part of our coast, where I experienced a wonderful sense of protection and an absence of fear of bombs. I was able to attend a Church of Christ, Scientist, regularly and to study daily the Lesson Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. During this period I volunteered for air ambulance work. Following an X ray, which I had to take in order to engage in this work, the doctor told me that a wonderful healing had taken place. The X ray showed that the left lung had been diseased but was now all right. The doctor pointed out that it was as though a course of inoculations had been given, but he said he knew that no such inoculations existed at that time. I realized that the healing had come as the result of my study of Science.
