For almost thirty years I have...
For almost thirty years I have relied completely on Christian Science. I am grateful for the progressive steps of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and class instruction. I am also grateful for freedom from the tobacco, liquor, and gambling habits, to which I had been addicted, and for a healing of sinus trouble. In the business world I have witnessed many proofs of Christian Science healing.
During several years of service in the Air Corps in the Second World War, I had a happy experience and many beautiful proofs of God's protection. I was guided into pleasant work, made many lasting friendships, and was so well protected physically that, with very few exceptions, I was able to be at my post with regularity.
The protection which membership in The Mother Church and a branch church affords has been proved to me many times. I am very grateful for having had the privilege of serving in various activities in a branch church. Some time ago I completed three years as First Reader without missing a single Sunday service or Wednesday testimony meeting. This I attributed largely to the impersonal prayerful work which members of The Mother Church and of the branch churches do daily. Just after I had been elected to the position of First Reader a small boil appeared on the side of my neck and soon took on larger proportions. However, through the help of a consecrated Christian Science practitioner this growth disappeared within a very short time.
On a Monday one of my eyes began to water and became painful. That evening it grew worse, and I was disturbed about my ability to read at the Wednesday testimony meeting. I asked for help from a practitioner, and we worked with the thought expressed in Jesus' admonition (Matt. 7:5), "First cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." By Wednesday I was completely free and able to fulfill my duty at the meeting.
I am very grateful for the splendid work that is being done at the Sanatoriums of the Christian Science Benevolent Association at San Francisco, California, and at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, in each of which I have received healings and much inspiration. For all of my experiences in Christian Science I am truly thankful to God. I thank Him too for Christ Jesus, our Way shower, and for Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader.—Charles Henry Schwab II, Chicago, Illinois.
