This testimony is given as an expression...

This testimony is given as an expression of my gratitude for Christian Science and for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who gave to the world a demonstrable religion of Truth and Love. I am humbly grateful to God for the protection my mother and I experienced during a severe storm. We were vacationing in a small western town and were on the porch when the storm struck suddenly. When we started to go into the house, the wind was blowing with such force that I could scarcely hold to the door.

I immediately declared aloud that God was not in the storm, that He knows nothing of destruction, and that He is the only power and presence. At this moment Mrs. Eddy's hymn beginning, "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power" (Poems, p. 4), came to me. I kept holding to its truths as I ran upstairs to close the windows.

When I looked over in the yard next door, I saw that a large tree had blown down across the front of the house, and another tree was down in the back yard. Then I looked on the other side and saw two trees down in the yard. I went back downstairs, but did not mention what I had seen. Instead, I kept declaring the allness of God and the nothingness of anything that was unlike Him. In spite of the evidence of destruction, no one was hurt. We were humbly grateful to God for His protection and loving care.
