[Original testimony in German]

"I am the Lord thy God, which...

"I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage" (Ex. 20:2). I have been privileged to have an experience such as that referred to here.

During the historic upheavals of the last decade my homeland came under foreign rule, and we were cut off from the outside world. The Christian Science churches were closed, and we no longer received our literature. The situation was dark. It was particularly dark for me. My husband passed on, my daughters were abroad, and I was not allowed to leave the country. Nor was there the slightest prospect of my being permitted to leave at any future time.

My comfort and hope in the years that followed came through the earnest study of Christian Science. I received help from studying the spiritual meaning of "wilderness" in the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 597), and very often I gave quiet thanks for the Christian Science literature I had accumulated. I read it continually and also quietly gave it to others who displayed an interest in reading it. As Mrs. Eddy says of Truth (ibid., p. 559), "It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear."
