SPIRITUAL ILLUMINATION HEALS

God is Love. The eternal mandate of Love is, "Let there be light" (Gen. 1:3). Light reveals what is present. When a light is turned on in a darkened room, it dispels the darkness and discloses the contents of the room. When the light of divine Love illumines human consciousness, it reveals the Christ. This light shows the truth of man's spiritual likeness to God and dispels the shadow of ignorance and fear, the darkness of mortality; and thus it heals the sick.

Saul of Tarsus, lacking love, was traveling the dark, fanatical road of religious bigotry and hatred in obedience to his mistaken sense of right when the Christ illuminated his path. It is related that "as he journeyed, he came near to Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven" (Acts 9:3). The sudden brilliance of the light was in such contrast to the mental darkness engulfing him that he became aware of his spiritual blindness. He recognized the Christ and humbly asked, "Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?" He was shown the way of Love, the Christly way, and was healed of his blindness. His nature was transformed by this revelation of Love.

Under his new name of Paul, he became an obedient ambassador of the Christ, an apostle of Love to all mankind. He was so aware of the guiding, healing, and protecting power of divine Love, which had illuminated his path, that he could finally say (Rom. 8:38, 39), "I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, not depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
