WHY WE NEED THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR

The goal of Christianity is eternal life. Christ Jesus showed the way. When a lawyer asked him (Luke 10:25), "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus turned him to the familiar commandments, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself." But the inquirer was not satisfied. He wanted a definition. "Who," he asked, "is my neighbour?"

Jesus answered by telling a story of a traveler, robbed and beaten, lying in the road. A priest and then a Levite came by and saw him, but both "passed by on the other side." Finally a Samaritan compassionately interested himself in the man's problem. He bound up his wounds, took him to an inn, and the next day when he left, he paid the innkeeper to take care of the man.

Then Jesus put the question right back to the lawyer, "Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?"
