This testimony of the healing...

This testimony of the healing power of Christian Science is written with a deep sense of gratitude and a sincere desire to be more alert to Mrs. Eddy's statement (Manual of The Mother Church, Art. VIII, Sect. 24), "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important." My very first healing in Science took place overnight. It was during the winter of the influenza epidemic that occurred during the First World War. I came down with the disease, and my doctor was so overworked that, by the third day, my call for help was still unheeded.

That evening I took the telephone book and found the name of a Christian Science practitioner. I told her of my illness and said that I was calling her because there was no other help available. She was very kind and said she would do some prayerful work for me. She asked me to read this verse in the Bible before I retired (Prow 3:24): "When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet." I was obedient and apparently receptive, for I slept through the night and awakened refreshed. My fever was completely gone. I was well, and I knew it.

I soon forgot the incident, and several years passed; but the seed of Truth had been planted. Once again Science was brought to my attention in an hour of need. I was away from home and desperately ill. At that time I was in a large city and living in a club for young artists. One night the girl in the next room heard of my plight and came to me with the name of a Christian Science practitioner. I called him on the telephone, and again I was healed overnight.

A few days later I went to the practitioner's office. One of the first things he said to me was: "From this moment on think of yourself as a Christian Science practitioner. From now on you are about Your Father's business." I did so, and it would take hundreds of words to relate the marvelous things that happened to me. My salary, my reputation, my relationships, improved so fast that I hardly knew myself.

After close study and application of the truth for some time, I felt ready for church membership. This was followed by class instruction. However, I found that this was just the beginning of my journey from sense to Soul—a sort of equipment with which to work out my salvation. Mrs. Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 118), "The warfare with one's self is grand." So it is, for in every battle the victory is assured in Christian Science.

Christian Science study, persisted in, gives one joy and satisfaction which truly "passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7), and I am grateful to God for our wonderful religion.—(Miss) Melita Krieg, San Clemente, California.
