TEACHING LITTLE CHILDREN

"I Thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes." How many times this statement of Jesus' as recorded in Luke (10:21) is proved when one is teaching the youngest pupils in the Christian Science Sunday School.

Sometimes a church member, even one who has held many church offices, feels hesitant about accepting an appointment to teach "the baby class." Some who do accept may feel inadequate or unworthy. This should not be the case, for teaching the little ones is one of the most rewarding of church activities.

Upon joining a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, a member resolved to accept any appointment offered her. So when she was asked to teach the primary class, she accepted, but it was under mental protest and with reservations. Even though she had children of her own whom she dearly loved, she did not feel drawn to other small children, nor did she feel she loved them as she should. In fact, most small children annoyed her extremely. An experienced kindergarten teacher had told her that she could never teach children, because she was too impatient and expected too much of them.
