SALLY AND NANCY HAVE A HAPPY TRIP

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Every summer Sally and Nancy visited their aunt. They usually went with their parents in their car around the lake, but this summer they were to go with their mother across the lake on a big boat. They were very happy when they were told that they would sleep on the boat in a little bed called a berth.

When their father took them to the lake, a big wind was blowing, and the boat was rocking quite a bit. At first the girls thought the rocking was fun, and they were very much interested in watching the little tugboats push and pull the big boat out into the lake. But when they began to undress to go to bed, their boat was rocking so hard that they began to be afraid.

Their mother reached into her bag for the Bible, and as she did, she asked the girls, "Do you remember what Jesus said to his friends when they were on a boat and frightened?" Without waiting for an answer, she opened the Bible to the eighth chapter of Matthew and started reading at the twenty-fourth verse: "And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm."
