ONE GOD, ONE POWER

What could we do without power? Nothing. And where is power vested—in matter or in Mind? God is the source of power, and there is no power apart from God. Solomon recognized God to be the source of power when he said (I Chron. 29:12), "In thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all."

Because of his recognition of God as the source of all power, Solomon became a powerful but peaceful ruler in Israel. It is notable that his reign was not disturbed by war. The power he exercised was seen in justice, mercy, and understanding. One of his first acts on ascending the throne, it is recorded, was one of wisdom and judgment in deciding the rightful ownership of a child. He had previously prayed to God, not for wealth or fame, but for understanding to judge the people rightly; and this prayer was answered, for through his understanding of God's power he became a great and wise king.

In Christian Science we recognize all law, all power, all authority, as vested in God, divine Mind. We also recognize man's ability, by reflection, to express divine power. It is of little use to contemplate great truths unless we recognize the power these truths exercise.
