SPIRITUAL RIGHTNESS HANDLES AGGRESSIVE MENTAL SUGGESTION

Weakness trembles before evil, and foolishness ignores it. But wisdom handles evil with the all-might of spiritual rightness, and God's allness proportionately appears to human consciousness. God's goodness is the infinite some-thingness of being, and on it rests the full argument and hope of the Christian Scientist.

The light of spiritual understanding reveals the allness of good and the nothingness of evil. To human sense the phenomenon of evil is like the darkness or shadow in a room where a light is shining: it is deepened in appearance with the brightness of the light, but not by that means made any more capable of resisting the light.

In the light of spiritual understanding there is no opposing power. Mary Baker Eddy gives assurance of this in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 173): "If Mind, God, is all-power and all-presence, man is not met by another power and presence, that—obstructing his intelligence—pains, fetters, and befools him. The perfection of man is intact; whence, then, is something besides Him that is not the counterpart but the counterfeit of man's creator?" That which would persuade us of the reality of darkness or ignorance is called by Christian Science aggressive mental suggestion. It is not made more real or secret by giving it this name.
