When going home one evening I...
When going home one evening I began to suffer a heart attack. Quickly I recalled a verse from Psalms (73:26) that was in the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly: "God is the strength of my heart." I knew that Mind, God, is all the Life there is, that this Life is never dependent upon a physical organ, and that it is indestructible and eternal. As I held to this reasoning, the heart difficulty soon disappeared, and there has been no recurrence of it.
One Saturday afternoon during the Christmas shopping period I was seated alone on the back seat of a bus in front of the door where the passengers get off. As the bus stopped to let some passengers off I suddenly felt a terrific blow on the top of my head. I was quite stunned for a few seconds; but I held fast to my purse, the theft of which was the motive for the attack on me. The last passenger to get out looked back with a guilty expression. However, the bus was starting just then, and I did not say anything to anyone, but turned my attention to doing prayerful work, as my head was hurting badly.
Soon I felt relief, but after I had done my errands and returned home, the trouble still lingered; so I did more thorough work to see that God is the only creator and that He creates only perfect man. I endeavored to realize that God made man in His likeness, perfect, satisfied, complete; therefore, man already has all good. I knew that man, as God's likeness, could express only the qualities of good; therefore he must, as the Bible says, "be perfect and entire, wanting nothing" (James 1:4). Working along this line, I saw that in reality nothing injurious had ever happened. This recognition brought a spiritual uplift of freedom and peace, and I was completely free.
