"THE SAME AFTER AS BEFORE"

Perhaps no more arresting statement was ever made by Christ Jesus than the one he made to his opponents who were questioning his authority (John 8:58), "Before Abraham was, I am." This so mystified and roused his listeners that they picked up stones to throw at him; yet he had only uttered a scientific statement of fact based upon Scriptural authority.

The Bible, long accepted as the Word of God, and thus as the source of divine authority, clearly states that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Mankind has been slow to grasp the practical meaning of this fact, yet the proof of its genuineness is well established by Scriptural record and in the present time by the authenticated testimony of thousands upon thousands who through the study of Christian Science have grasped something of the practical meaning of this eternal fact.

"Before Abraham was, I am," simply declares that the real identity of man is spiritual and that this is an eternal, ever-present fact. Man's status, thus understood, is as demonstrably true today as when its divine Principle lifted our Master from the tomb into the progressive experience of ascension.
