A wonderful proof of God's ever-presence...

A wonderful proof of God's ever-presence and all-power will ever be with me to remind me that testing times are proofs of God's love. When a Christian Scientist first spoke of his religion to me, I was not ready to accept it. Many years later, however, the words "Christian Science" came to me in an hour of need.

I had been ill for two weeks. The doctor informed me that I had a rapidly growing tumor and recommended that I have a major operation performed as soon as I was strong enough. Though I had never studied Christian Science, I knew that its followers rely on God alone as the only power, I was convinced that it was my only hope, and I turned to it calmly and confidently, leaving all to God. I lost all sense of fear as I turned to the Father in childlike trust and learned that, as Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way."

Life was never so beautiful. I began to see it as it really is. A vine grew up the window screen, and its beautiful flower looked in my window as if to proclaim God's love. I noticed another plant bending out from a darkened corner to get the sunshine, and as it reached the light it began to blossom. I was becoming more aware of the loveliness of Love. It was not long until peace, joy, health, and gratitude reigned where discord, sorrow, ill-health, and self-pity had been. I never underwent the operation that had been recommended; the tumor disappeared as I held my thought steadfastly to the truth of being.
