I should like to share with those who seem to be dwelling in the valley of despair the joy of the freedom to which Christian Science has led me. A few years ago I was without hope in this world, having sought in vain for the cure of a serious heart condition which had bothered me all my life. When the mental and physical suffering was almost unbearable and I was hoping I might soon pass on, thinking in my ignorance that this would afford me relief, a woman brought me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

Revelation and release came one night after I had studied this book day and night for about three weeks. It was as if bands which had been binding me were loosed, and these words came to me: "This is the only death you will ever know." I held fast to this angel message until it unfolded to me that the only death is that of the false belief in death. I lost all fear and knew that I was reach for progress; so I continued diligently to study the textbook.

It was about nine months afterward that my complete healing came. One morning after an extremely restless night I asked to be left alone. I opened the textbook and turned to the chapter on Prayer, knowing that "God is no respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34) and that my healing awaited only my recognition of the truth. Then I began to read (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."
