Since I became a student of...

Since I became a student of Christian Science my life has been immeasurably enriched. From early youth I was under the care of medical doctors much of the time. In addition I reached a point where I became conscious of the fact that there were many basic questions which my religious belief could not answer for me. I was therefore receptive to Christian Science when it was introduced to me shortly after I entered military service. Since that time my questions involving problems of health, family, home, human relationships, and supply have been answered through reliance on God.

Although the healing of grief had been instantaneous on two other occasions, my greatest test came at the passing of my young wife. I was immediately attacked by all the myriad phases of grief, and I experienced one of the strongest challenges to my understanding of God and of the permanence of His creation. Through the loving wisdom of a devoted Christian Science teacher and the understanding helpfulness of Christian Science friends, I emerged with a stronger realization than ever that I was indeed studying the genuine truth as demonstrated by Jesus, his disciples, and the prophets of the Old Testament.

Furthermore, I have glimpsed the fact that the eternity of Life, God, necessarily means that I need have no fear of death—either for my loved one or for myself—for I realize that death is but another dream of mortal life. Mary Baker Eddy has stated it beautifully and simply in her work "Christian Healing" (p. 10): "God is All, and in all: that finishes the question of a good and a bad side to existence. Truth is the real; error is the unreal. You will gather the importance of this saying, when sorrow seems to come, if you will look on the bright side; for sorrow endureth but for the night, and joy cometh with the light."
