When I was a child of three and...

When I was a child of three and suffering from a condition the leading doctors in our town could not diagnose, my parents were told that I could not live through the night. My mother obtained my father's consent for me to have Christian Science treatment by a practitioner, and I was healed. As a result of this healing I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School.

What a joy those class sessions were where teacher and pupils shared spiritual truths and healings! The blessings of the Christian Science Sunday School are indeed bountiful. One such blessing I remember well. During a required physical examination at high school I was told that my need for glasses was urgent. An appointment was made for me with an eye specialist in another city, and I explained to my Sunday School teacher why I would be absent the following Sunday morning. She affirmed the perfection of God's child so clearly that I was healed. The specialist's diagnosis was: "Her eyes are perfect. She does not need glasses."

Membership in a branch church has given me valued experience, broadening, educating, and spiritualizing my thought through the channels of committee work, Sunday School teaching, and activity as a member of the executive board. One day while waiting in the reception room of the office of a Christian Science teacher, from whom I later had class instruction, I found myself wishing that I might serve as his secretary. Quickly realizing that the place belonged to another, I dismissed the thought, mentioning my momentary desire to no one. Shortly thereafter the position was open, and three persons each thought of me as a prospect for it. I was given the position and am deeply grateful to God for the years of joyous experience that followed.
