World-wide Sharing of a Meeting in The Mother Church by Tape Recording

In the year 1951 for the first time a meeting held in Boston, Massachusetts, during Annual Meeting week of The Mother Church was recorded on tape and offered to branch churches for presentation before their members. At the same time translations of it were prepared in manuscript, to be read by the First and Second Readers in non-English speaking churches and societies wishing to use these. From the first these recordings and their translations were well received, and each year since Christian Scientists throughout the world have shared the addresses given at the Tuesday evening meeting following the Annual Meeting. Through the recordings they have sung the hymns and joined in prayer with the Annual Meeting visitors to Boston, gathered within the walls of The Mother Church. Healing, individual inspiration, and church progress have been reported as the result of these meetings.

From a joint gathering of three branches of The Mother Church in Toledo, Ohio, which presented the recorded meeting entitled "Christian Science and the World Today," came the following comment: "We are deeply grateful not only for the opportunity of presenting the recording, but also for the idea which brought it into being. This impersonal method of bringing a portion of the Annual Meeting season to a greater segment of Christian Scientists is surely an unfoldment of harmonious progress, which will continue to operate unspent. ... We are certain that all present gained a deeper insight into Christian Science and its true meaning and activity, which is leading to greater individual spiritual realization and thus to branch church growth."

A member of The Mother Church living in California requested an application blank to join a small Christian Science Society. "I should like to tell you what caused me to make my decision," she said. "I had intended writing the society and explaining that I was not applying for membership, as my full-time work and the distance that I live from the church would make it impossible for me to serve. But the challenging message of the tape recording, 'Christian Science and the World Today,' has reversed my previous decision, and I know I will be able to serve in some way." In commenting, the clerk of that society adds: "How grateful we are for this gift each year from The Mother Church. It encourages us to go forward with increased vigor and strength."
