BREAD FROM HEAVEN
And
God said to Moses,
"I will rain bread from heaven for you."
To leave Egypt had seemed the way,
A step taken at Mind's direction—
And yet it led into a wilderness.
How else
Should Israel's children learn to know manna?
How else consent to trust the Father wholly?
What joy at day's bright dawn to gather
That fair supply which with the dew had fallen!
The dew fell, and the manna—
Symbol of the transcendent bread
Which Jesus was to teach and demonstrate.
So let us, joyful, rise with Love's fresh dawn
And gather heaven's manna—
The bread of Life whereof a man shall eat
And, living, never die.
