As a young woman starting out...

As a young woman starting out in the business world alone, I was invited by a friend to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in The Mother Church. At my first attendance I realized that there was something there which I needed and which helped me to overcome a sense of loneliness and weariness. I continued to go to the meetings, and each Wednesday I left the meeting comforted and refreshed. Later I joined The Mother Church and a branch church.

Some time after this I was sent to Germany by the firm which employed me, and I remained there for almost three years doing secretarial work. During this time I had continually to meet the sense of being separated from my family and country. Because of extremely difficult hours and the hardship of being in a foreign country without knowing the language, I went for help to a Christian Science practitioner. Overnight I saw the atmosphere in our office change from one of suspicion and distrust to one of love and understanding, and I came to realize the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 470), "The children of God have but one Mind."

Over a period of years I have been healed of ptomaine poisoning, effects of accidents, and an extremely irritating skin condition. While I am deeply grateful for my physical healings, I am even more grateful for a fuller realization of the divine nature of Christian Science. The inspiration which I received from the promises in the Bible and from Mrs. Eddy's works, as well as from our periodicals, and the further spiritual growth obtained through class instruction, help toward the living of a life in conformity with the teachings of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy.— (Mrs.) Julia S. Dunham, Manchester, Connecticut.
