Signs of the times
Dr. W. R. Matthews in an article in the Daily Telegraph
London, England
One of the chief purposes of St. John's Gospel is to convince us that eternal life can be present fact. We do not have to wait for some day of judgment. Now, in this present existence, through Christ, we may begin to live in the eternal and open our souls to the life of God. ... In our absorption in the passing world, our fixation on the future, our anxieties about our fate, we tend to lose all calm and even the power of sane judgment.
If, even only in a small degree and now and then, we could be aware that ... we were one with God and partakers of His life, we should begin to be whole and, amid all the storms of time, we should know quietness within.
