I have been a student of Christian Science...
I have been a student of Christian Science for more than eighteen years, and about two and a half years ago I had an experience which showed me how far I have come in my understanding of God and of man's immutable relationship to Him. While I was driving along a busy highway to my brother's home to spend the week end, the steering mechanism on the car suddenly gave way, and I found myself going toward the left side of the road and unable to do anything about it. Though the brakes were applied immediately, the car did not stop until it had hit the guard rails at the left side of the road and spun around broadside to the highway.
A large truck ran full speed into my car, and I was thrown out the door onto the highway. The truck could not stop, and came within two feet of running over me. I regained consciousness while still lying on the road and immediately began to use what I had learned of the truth through sixteen years of studying Christian Science. I continued to use it every minute I was conscious throughout that experience, and I knew not one moment's pain or fear. Great love was shown me, and my heart was then and is now full of overwhelming gratitude for this.
I remember telling two state troopers that I was a Christian Scientist and hoped I would not be kept in a hospital, as I wanted only Christian Science treatment. They were most reassuring and evidently relayed my message to the hospital where I was taken, for I was given a release to sign, and a Christian Science practitioner was called at my request. In addition, my brother was notified, and he came to the hospital for me and took me to his home. My brother, who is not a Christian Scientist, asked me to have an X ray, but this I lovingly refused to do. I told him that I would rail a Christian Science nurse and have her come in and bathe me the next day, as I had severe wounds on my head and leg, as well as cuts and bruises on my back.
