Opportunities for Service
[Note: Extracts from a report prepared for the Reading Room Division by a librarian completing her second year in her branch church Reading Room.]
A California Reading Room
As librarian I have studied and pondered the references to "service" in the Bible, the writings of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science Hymnal with the thought that our Reading Room is "the open doorway to Church."
Many telephone calls were being made to our Reading Room. Passers-by often came in on one pretext or another. This gave staff members unique opportunities for service. Often these visitors were invited to step into the study room and were shown a chair near the pile of recent issues of The Christian Science Monitor. Their attention was called to the Monitor and to the other periodicals on the same table.
