Christian Science was first presented to me when I had reached more than threescore years and ten. I was suffering from severe constipation, a condition I had had from infancy, and also from hemorrhoids, rheumatism, lumbago, and an abscess in the head. Also I could walk only half a block without becoming winded. This was seven years ago, and at that time I expected to live but a few months longer.

I began to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and had read about halfway through it when I felt so uplifted that I seemed to be walking on air. I continued reading the textbook, and in less than two months I did not have an ache or a pain and was walking freely everywhere. It was the first time in my life I can recall being without discomfort of some kind.

Two years later I suffered from strangulation of the bowels. Within fifteen minutes after a practitioner had been called I was healed. Another outstanding demonstration was the healing which followed a severe accident. While I was driving over a railroad crossing my car was hit by a train and demolished. I was taken unconscious to a hospital, where it was reported I could not survive. I remained unconscious for four days, but with my wife's consent a friend called a Christian Science practitioner, and work was taken up at once.
