I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude to God for Christian Science and for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who had the courage and love to give her pure and uplifting revelation to the world. Through her writings I have become conscious of the living Christ, Truth, and of what God should mean to men. It is a joy to know that only the holy, the pure, and the perfect make up our ancestry.

During the flood disaster of 1953 our small town was flooded. We saw the sea rising and heard the waves beating against our house, but my husband, our seventeen-year-old daughter, and I knew no moment of fear. We realized that God is omnipresent Love and that, as our beloved Leader says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 207), "Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless." Although the road was washed away, the quay in front of us stood firm, and our house was not damaged.

My daughter was led to go to the town hall at three o'clock in the morning and toll the alarm bell, awaking many people. When she returned home, she was obliged to swim across the narrow streets. On the following days we were thankful to be able to help the people of another island, where the damage was much greater than on our island. We took some of them, whose homes had been lost, into our house. Our people here were thankful for the generous help that came from many parts of the world.
