HOME
Home —what wonderful meaning that word has for most of mankind! Mary Baker Eddy writes thus of home in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 58): "Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections." Mrs. Eddy had a very deep appreciation of home, for it was in the beloved home of her early girlhood that her love for God was so beautifully nurtured. Our Leader's own writings, including her autobiography, speak of this love for home. Many have had the opportunity and great privilege of visiting some of the homes in which Mrs. Eddy lived. There one sees expressed the dignity, order, and beauty which signify the true sense of home.
The student of Christian Science, through his understanding of God as revealed in the Christian Science textbook, gains the right concept of every phase of daily living. This textbook defines God as follows: "The great I am ; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." These lines can be found on page 587 of the inspiring chapter entitled "Glossary." The student also learns that God is his only parent, his Father-Mother, and that He is always and everywhere available. This never-absent Parent, who so dearly loves His children, supplies them with all that is needful for harmonious being. The idea of God, endowed with His qualities, is man's true and only identity. What more cherished idea of home could we have than the awareness of a loved and loving Father-Mother always at hand to comfort, guide, guard, and inspire our every act?
As God's individual expression, each one has the authority to claim the presence of home now. He can affirm that the wisdom and intelligence of the all-knowing and all-wise Mind are already his by reflection. His supply is the substance of Spirit. He expresses the spontaneity and unlabored activity of all-acting Life, the honesty and integrity of Truth. All these qualities should motivate the human footsteps taken to establish a home. Each step unfolds in a wonderful way when humbly and joyously one entertains the spiritual ideas which constitute his only real dwelling place—the consciousness of Love.
