It has long been my desire to...
It has long been my desire to write a testimony of gratitude for the numerous blessings that have been mine through the study and application of Christian Science. This one is written with the hope that it may bring inspiration and help to others.
When we were living in Canada during the First World War and our children were small, our year-old baby was ill so much of the time that a large part of my husband's earnings was paid out for medicine and for a doctor's services, with no permanent healing resulting. During this trying time many children's diseases were prevalent in our town, and I was so filled with fear that I would not take the baby out of the house, feeling he would be subject to the diseases if I did. One thing after another affected him, and finally we decided that we must change our method of treatment. When the doctor came one day we asked him if he knew what the difficulty was. He said frankly he did not; he also said that he thought we would never raise the child. On his recommendation we called a baby specialist, who after making a thorough examination made the same statement as the first physician.
Shortly after this our older daughter came home from school one day stating that one of her teachers had told her that she had a textbook which she would send me and that if I would study it, everything would work out all right. I was overjoyed and asked for the textbook. The next day it was brought to me, and it was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Later the teacher called, and after explaining some truths to me said that I should call a Christian Science practitioner, who would help me to get started with my study of Christian Science and would also help the baby. This was done, and from the very start I had the assurance that all would be well. In three months' time the baby was well and happy, playing as he had never done before. Everything was changed in the household, and there resulted much peace and expectancy of good at all times.
