A number of years ago our family physician insisted that I should be sent to a drier climate to make my permanent home. According to his diagnosis, I was suffering from tuberculosis and could never again be well in the climate of my home state. I then weighed but eighty-four pounds.

Accordingly I went to live in a western state, and while there I became acquainted with a couple who had taken up the study of Christian Science. They told me that it had helped them and that it would do much for me. This was my first ray of hope. They loaned me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I began to read of God's love and of His ability to heal mankind.

Although I had been going to the doctor regularly and had been taking several kinds of medicine, after reading the textbook for a few weeks I began to reason that a material medicine, having no intelligence of itself, could have no ability to heal anything. I lost all faith in drugs and began to turn to a higher power—God, divine Mind. Through my study of the textbook I was healed. This occurred before I had heard about Christian Science practitioners or attended a Church of Christ, Scientist.
