Daily I thank our Father-Mother...

Daily I thank our Father-Mother God for the protection, health, and welfare that have been mine through the study and application of Christian Science for over sixty years. Having traveled throughout the world for more than fifty years, I have had innumerable proofs of God's care in jungles, deserts, and frozen areas. Poisonous snake bites, broken bones, and blood poisoning from bullet wounds have been overcome. At one time my husband and I were robbed and stranded in an unfriendly country, yet through the help of Christian Science we were able to come out unharmed. At another time we were brought to safety following a shipwreck.

I should like to tell of an instance of protection here among my own people. One day, during the Second World War, I got on a bus with several shopping bags and a handbag containing quite a sum of money to be deposited, several endorsed checks, and most important of all, our ration books, including four that belonged to one of our neighbors. When I got off the bus I discovered that the bag of valuables was missing.

For a moment I was nearly overcome; then I got hold of myself. The truth that I had loved so long and had trusted in every situation came to sustain me. It kept me from getting panicky or making such a reality of the situation that it could not be handled properly. I stuck to the truth that God had given all good things to His children and that error cannot overthrow His will by depriving us of what is rightfully ours. I demanded proof of my understanding by getting on the bus again when it returned. When I asked for my bag, the driver said that he was the relief driver and that he had had no word of a bag. He asked for my fare. I told him all my money was in the bag. He said, "You didn't expect to find it on this bus, did you?" I replied, "Yes, I still do expect to find it here."
