With a deep sense of humility...

With a deep sense of humility and gratitude I give this testimony in the hope that it will send out a ray of spiritual light to some seeker of Truth.

Forty-three years ago, when suffering from a nervous breakdown for the third time in my life, I was led to turn to Christian Science. A friend gave me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and asked me to read it. As doctors and medicine had failed to help me, I decided to give Christian Science a trial. I was living in a small community where there was only one other person interested in Christian Science, and I knew little about the work of practitioners. My only help was God and the textbook. Gradually I began to gain strength, and a sense of joy filled my consciousness in place of despair, which had dominated my thought for so long. My healing has been permanent, and God has been my only physician during the many years since.

Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." I have learned that it is the correction of thought that heals the body, and the Bible gives a guide for right thinking in Philippians (4:8): "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
