Awakening the Stranger, Reawakening the Church Member

[Edited extracts from a report prepared for the Reading Room Division by one branch church librarian!]

In July, 1952, a specially appointed committee started the work of planning and preparing for a three-day exhibition to be held in November in the interests of our Christian Science Reading Room.

Proposed by the librarian, unanimously approved by the Reading Room staff, and scheduled with the approval of our executive board, this exhibition was to be held in our Sunday School and to be open to all branches within twenty-five miles of London.

Early discussion of committee aims and motives resulted in the adoption of a quotation from an address given by Mrs. Daisette D. S. McKenzie in The Mother Church which appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel for July 7, 1951, as the basis for the work. This reads in part, "Our right sense of the Founder of Christian Science and our unremitting support of her are indispensable." It was decided that our purpose in holding such an exhibition was to bring out our Leader's place as the Founder of Christian Science as well as the Discoverer. The remarks of those attending the exhibition constitute a lovely proof that this purpose was fulfilled. Its results have been far-reaching.
