The first thing that I read when...
The first thing that I read when I receive The Christian Science Journal or the Sentinel is the testimony section; so I feel that I must do my part by telling of some of the many reasons I have for being very grateful for Christian Science.
We have had many proofs of God's healing efficacy, but one experience especially will always stand as a bulwark of strength to me. Our son manifested symptoms of rheumatic fever, and although I studied and worked as we are taught in Christian Science, the condition grew worse. I prayed humbly to God to show me how to overcome my own fear and then called a practitioner, to whom I explained the situation and asked for treatment. I was told to take a firm stant regardless of what material sense was trying to tell me. Within a few days all evidence of the disease had disappeared, and our boy was completely healed. For this demonstration of Truth's healing power I shall never cease to be humbly grateful. I should like to express my appreciation of my husband's attitude at that time. Although he is not yet a member of a Church of Christ, Scientist, he goes to church with me, and he approves of my stand.
We have proved over and over again the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 307), "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." A few years ago we bought an implement business at a substantial price and were given only three years to pay it off. Knowing that God was directing us and that we would not be allowed to make mistakes, we went ahead getting the necessary money. A banker to whom we went for a loan had told a friend of ours that we would have no difficulty in geting what we needed, but when we arrived he told us that there must have been a misunderstanding, as he could not possibly let us have so much. We felt discouraged and tried for a loan at several other places without success.
