"THE HORIZON OF TRUTH"

MARY BAKER EDDY, our revered Leader, tells us in her book "Christian Science versus Pantheism" (p.1), "The night is far spent, the day is not distant in the horizon of Truth—even the day when all people shall know and acknowledge one God and one Christianity."

About four thousand years ago that great patriarch, the faithful Abram, partially envisioned the vastness of God's immeasurable spiritual universe with its unlimited horizon of Truth. His spiritual vision took him a step beyond finite, bounded territory, human strife, greed, and bitterness. An impending family dissension was quickly and effectively forestalled by his God-inspired unselfishness. He remained undisturbed in the midst of seething dissatisfaction and covetousness, because within his horizon of Truth he glimpsed something of the perfect and harmonious brotherhood of man.

Abram reminded his nephew, Lot, that they were brethren. He unselfishly offered Lot the choice of land, while he willingly accepted that which remained. To Lot the horizon of spiritually true values was beclouded by materialism: divine justice, consideration, and co-operation were hidden from him. He avidly chose that which appeared to be the most valuable from his material viewpoint. False values and greed deceived him. The result was that his selfishly gained possessions were devastated.
