"THE LOGIC OF EVENTS"

That there is a rational connection between facts or events, that one thing or circumstance leads logically to another, is set forth in many of Christ Jesus' teachings. For instance, when discussing the mental upheaval that would mark the end of iniquity, he foretold a shaking of "the powers of the heavens" which would be followed by the appearing of "the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Matt. 24:29, 30).

The Master knew that individually and collectively a certain logic of events is unfolding to human consciousness; that no event takes place haphazardly, but that thought is constantly producing effects in a sequence that is inevitable. He once said (John 4:36), "He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal." On the other hand, his teaching made it evident that sin brings suffering; but suffering brings purification, and the purified consciousness comes under the control of God. The power of Truth is resistlessly asserting its presence, forcing humanity to part with evil beliefs, which would hide God's spiritual kingdom. Understanding this law-governed sequence, Jesus could say with serenity (Matt. 24:35), "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."

There was nothing fatalistic about the Master's doctrine of the logic of events. His discernment of the might of Truth to declare its own allness made him the servant of that might. It impelled his determination to labor the more diligently to demonstrate Deity's presence. Even though he foresaw evil bringing itself to an inevitable, self-destructive upheaval, he could remain calm, for he trusted the logic of events to fulfill the will of the Father.
