"BEHOLD, NOW IS THE ACCEPTED TIME"

In the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." This thought of today being filled with blessings has helped the writer many times. In this connection it is helpful to study the definition of "day" on page 584 of Science and Health, which reads in part. "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded."

At one time the writer was greatly discouraged because evil in the guise of limitation, with its many thwarting restrictions, seemed very real. Much earnest study had failed to reveal the solution of the problem. One day, when the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly for the week was on the subject of "Reality," a very wonderful healing occurred. One of the sections of this lesson included Paul's words as recorded in II Corinthians (6:2), "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." These words stood out as a beacon, and the beautiful revelation, or "illumination of spiritual understanding," unfolded the spiritual fact that God is the one and only power and presence now. Since this was true, evil of every sort had to be without power and without presence.

In this connection it was clearly seen that the error hindering the demonstration had been the belief that sometime in the future good would be realized, the need would be met and the problem solved. What a subtle way for error to claim presence! The allness and perfection of God and His perfect creation were seen as a present spiritual fact, and almost instantly a wonderful adjustment took place in human affairs. One by one the needs were met, not always with money, but sometimes in loving service, until that which had loomed up as an insurmountable problem had disappeared.
