The goal before us

“There are so many things I want to do, I don’t believe I’ll ever be able to do them all,” a young woman once complained to a friend who was a Christian Scientist.

“Turn to Love,” the friend replied.

The woman doubted that she could do this because she did not believe that she would have enough will power to make herself turn away from her cherished human desires. The Scientist explained that to turn to divine Love, or God, did not mean for her to abandon constructive goals, but meant to keep before her a steadfast course in gaining them. A sailor, in order to reach his destination, does not let his boat drift on the waters. He chooses the course by which he may best utilize the present available power.
