"WHO DAILY LOADETH US WITH BENEFITS"

Jesus of Nazareth in his parable of the talents cites the arrangement of a householder who as he departed on a journey left certain money to his three servants in amounts of five talents, two talents, and one talent respectively. He returned to find that the larger amounts had each been invested shrewdly with resultant accumulation, while the one talent had been safely, buried in the ground, but had not, therefore, shown any increase. The servant who had hoarded the talent instead of putting it to use was deprived of it.

Jesus summarized the parable by saying (Matt. 25:29), "Unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath." This statement has often been questioned, upon the assumption that it was inexplicably unjust.

Mary Baker Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 323), "If 'faithful over a few things,' we shall be made rulers over many; but the one unused talent decays and is lost."
