In the New Testament, Peter...

In the New Testament, Peter tells its that we have been given "exceeding great and precious promises" (II Pet. 1:4). Through the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we are shown how we may prove these promises true in our own lives.

One such promise, which has been very precious to me for many years, is found in Isaiah (65:24): "It shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." My introduction to Christian Science was a proof of this promise. It came at a time when my mother was suffering intense pain from what a doctor thought might be cancer of the stomach. Finally, when I felt that I could not endure seeing her suffer any longer, I cried aloud against the injustice of her having to undergo such an ordeal.

In the course of a day or two a friend who came to visit us brought the wonderful news that through Christian Science she had been healed of tuberculosis after every material remedy had failed and she had been given but a short time to live. A practitioner was called for my mother, and she was healed almost instantaneously. She had been unable to eat solid food for months, but after her second treatment she ate a hearty dinner of steak, potatoes, and hot biscuit. At the same time, without any specific work being done for me, I was healed of defective vision and laid aside glasses, which I had been told I would always have to wear. Above all I found that there is a loving God, who heals our diseases and answers our prayers.
