GATHERING THE PRESENT HARVEST

Many people today are deeply concerned and disturbed about what has happened to them in the past or what may come to them in the future. So occupied are their thoughts with past failures or occurrences, or with what the future may hold, that their present days are filled with pain, fear, suffering, regret, and uncertainty. Thus they deprive themselves of the unlimited and ever-present harvest of God's goodness.

Christ Jesus told us that the kingdom of heaven, the presence and power of all good, is forever here; in fact that it is within us. And our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 12), "We own no past, no future, we possess only now." And she continues, "Faith in divine Love supplies the ever-present help and now, and gives the power to 'act in the living present.'" Christian Science shows us how to gather the present harvest, and to enjoy its richness, through a correct understanding of God and His spiritual creation.

Since God is eternal, ever-present Love, fear, pain, hatred, and discord are, in reality, never present. Since God is ever-present Life, there can be no death, deterioration, stagnation, or decay. Since God is ever-present Truth, it follows that evil, accidents, chance, and change are impossibilities. God is the only presence, and man, His image and likeness, must be included in that presence eternally. Therefore man never has been, nor can he ever be, outside of God's presence, which is the kingdom of heaven, the presence of eternal good.
