TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!

Sometimes we hear one say to another when parting, "Take care of yourself!" This is an admonition replete with good will for another's well-being and happiness, an often needful reminder not to neglect oneself.

The question is, How does one best take care of himself? Here the answers of mortals are as numerous as the human opinions and theories they entertain regarding health and life. For health they look to matter and the body, which they believe to have intelligence and so to be capable of acting independently of thought and often contrary to one's welfare. Yet the Bible says of an individual (Prov. 23:7), "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Therefore, according to Scriptural authority, one takes the best care of himself who is careful what he thinks, who watches not the body, but the thoughts he entertains.

This is a basic point in the healing practice of Christian Science, which takes its rules of health from the Bible, especially from the master Christian, Christ Jesus. He said, as we read in the Gospel of Matthew (6:25): "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?" Then he went on to assure us, "Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things."
