Signs of the Times

Brigadier A. Long of the Salvation Army in The War Cry Chicago, Illinois

One weakness of present-day Christianity is its lack of distinctiveness.... Our Lord "gave himself for us, that he might ... purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." Let me change the word "peculiar" and put in the word "distinctive." It means the same, but what understanding it brings and how it seems to pull one up and make one think —distinctiveness.

Let us have the zeal that arises from the quality of our life and not from an easily evaporating enthusiasm. We can be like bubbles which rise, burst, and are finished, but we can also be determined, like the rock, firm and sure in all our beliefs and can be good by endeavoring to seek this holiness from God.
