[Original testimony in French]

"The time for thinkers has come

"The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii). These inspired lines by Mary Baker Eddy were an awakening to me when I read them for the first time several years ago. I had just lost my little son. and I was grief-stricken and discouraged. I needed something more than time-honored systems to comfort me.

A Christian Science practitioner very lovingly gave me a Bible and a copy of Science and Health to study, The reading of these textbooks produced a great change in my thinking, and I began to realize that the love we give contributes more to our spiritual development than the love we receive.

The Bible, which I had not understood before, became luminous in the light of Science and Health, and I began to attend a Church of Christ, Scientist, where I received several healings. Through the church services and the help of a practitioner I have been healed of bronchitis, chronic inflammation of the ear, internal pains, which caused attacks of breathlessness, and headaches. One night I was seized with violent pains throughout my body. I struggled alone until morning, pondering the meaning of the following inspiring lines (Science and Health, p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,— neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." In the morning I was unable to stand straight, but I refused to give in to the condition. About noon I was free and was able to do an important errand on foot, lighthearted and happy.
