Although I had always believed...

Although I had always believed there was a God, I thought He must be responsible for both good and evil. It was only when I commenced the study of the Bible in conjunction with the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, that I began to see that God is good, the only cause, and that His creation as effect must be entirely good. As these truths permeated my consciousness I began to experience more harmonious conditions and to know the meaning of real happiness and peace.

At my place of business all doors seemed closed to my progress, since circumstances prevented me from acquiring further training, without which there was no hope of advancement. But Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 258), "God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis." Holding this and other truths in thought, I took steps to find new employment, but at first to no avail.

One day a co-worker showed me an advertisement, an immediate answer to which resulted in my being granted an interview. At this meeting I was left in no doubt as to the lightness of my accepting the new position, especially when my interviewer said. "There are no closed doors in this firm." Satisfactory arrangements were made for me to leave my previous employers. My new position brought me increased salary, and I was given training in an entirely new field. Each day I started with the thought that as the reflection of the all-knowing Mind I would know all I needed to know at the required moment, and I lost all doubt of my ability to grasp the new work.
