My first healing in Christian Science...

My first healing in Christian Science occurred twenty-eight years ago; and since there has been no return of the ailment, the permanency of the healing cannot be doubted. We were engaged in dry farming, which means that we had to rely upon rainfall to supply the water for our crops and livestock. One year there was no rainfall; it was a year of total drought. Our crops failed utterly, and the watering holes became dry, causing many of our livestock to perish. Our material resources, never great at any time, were reduced almost to the vanishing point.

An even severer testing time was ahead of me. Following an unsuccessful operation for cancer, I found myself at that point of which it is said, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." I was ready to ask for Christian Science treatment. First, however, I wanted some assurance that my case was not too difficult to be healed by this method.

I knew a woman who was a student of Science, and I asked her if she thought that I could be healed through Christian Science. Her answer that I could be was quick and positive. She told me that a practitioner need not hesitate to accept a case on account of the severity of the condition to be healed, and she mentioned something about all disease being error, no whit of which I understood at the moment.
