THE DIVINE PRESENCE

Christian science teaches that man is now, always has been, and forever must be in the presence of God. The Psalmist knew that he could not go outside of or flee from the presence of God. And he emphasized this in the positive tone of his questions (Ps. 139: 7), "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence." Where man is, God must also be.

Man is created in the image of God, who is Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love. Principle is cause; man is effect. There can be no separation of cause and effect, just as the sun's rays can never be separated from the sun. Mind is consciousness, including wisdom, accuracy, justice, and spiritual discernment. And man as God's image reflects these qualities. Beauty, unity, joy, substance, are expressed by Soul, which gives man the spiritual sense of life, harmonious and complete.

Because God is Spirit, man, His reflection, cannot be material. Life is eternal. Man is experiencing eternal life now, because his life is spiritual and substantial. Truth is reality comprising only that which God created, and God created only good; so only good is true and omnipresent. Love is ever present, since God is ever present. Love's love for man is constant, consistent, and enduring.
