Words are inadequate to express...

Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science. Though I had known of it as a child, I went through many adverse experiences before I was ready to acknowledge that this scientific religion is the truth of God and man. When the passing on of my husband left me alone and penniless in a foreign country, I went to see a practitioner, who received me most lovingly and quoted the words, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity."

Certainly it was God's opportunity to guide my thought to Himself as the only source of love and life. The understanding that there is no death, no loss, no separation, came to me like a revelation, and I found myself thinking in a very different way from what I had been used to. I took up the study of Christian Science through the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, which became my daily bread. The treasures of the Bible I discovered in the light of Mrs. Eddy's teachings. I was especially upheld by the words from Isaiah (30:15), "In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." A good job was found which provided for my immediate needs, and warm friendship was shown to me wherever I went.

Among the many physical healings which have been attained through Christian Science treatment I want to mention two for which I am particularly grateful. One was the healing of a severe case of liver complaint accompanied by jaundice. One morning I woke up with such intense symptoms of the condition that I could neither get up and go to work nor do any helpful thinking or reading. Therefore, I called a practitioner on the telephone and asked for help. After a few words from her I became calm and went back to sleep. Several hours later I felt so much relieved that I got up and attended to some household chores. The next day I went to my office.
