Christian Science came into my life as a result of prayerful longing to understand the Bible and its teachings. When this religion was lovingly presented to me by a friend, it was not long before I realized that it is indeed the truth, as Christ Jesus taught it.

Many healings have been experienced in our family, the most outstanding, perhaps, being my recovery from the effects of coal gas. We were burning coal in the fireplace, and unknown to me, the draft was almost completely closed. I had been sitting by the fire all evening, and when my husband came in about eleven o'clock he exclaimed, "This place is full of coal gas." Not thinking much about the fumes, I decided to retire. I had just reached the upper landing when without any warning I collapsed.

After remaining unconscious for an hour, I awoke to hear my name being called. Although my tongue was very swollen, I made my husband understand that I wanted him to read to me from Science and Health by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. After he had read a short time I wanted to arise, and not realizing how fearful he was, I did so in spite of his protests, whereupon I became unconscious again for two hours.
