LOVE'S INFINITE BOUNTY
Thought is sometimes startled by the arresting words of Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," and asks, "Just how does divine Love meet human needs?"
Christian Science answers by explaining that Love's very nature precludes its knowing aught but completeness and perfection, purity and peace, and that since divine Love is conscious only of its own all-satisfying wholeness and that of its reflection, man and the universe, no sense of need can exist in infinite Mind, divine Love. Then as we entertain only such thoughts as conform to divine completeness and perfection, and exclude as unreal whatever does not accord with them, the harmony and immortality of all that really is, is revealed. Is not this the method our great Master used and taught his disciples when he declared (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"? No one was more aware than he of the unlimited divine energy with which these grand verities forever assert themselves. The fact that the one and only Mind is forever unfolding itself in its own vast infinitude was understood by him who on this precise basis healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the lepers, cast out demons, and bade his followers to do likewise.
Paul appreciated the sublime proofs of the oneness of Mind and its omnipotence which Christ Jesus presented in his unparalleled healing works. His epistles support and amplify the Master's teachings. They set forth rules which, when obeyed, meet every human need. One of the most telling of them is this (Phil. 2:5): "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Since this all-knowing Mind is the only Mind, all that exists, exists within it as its perfect expression. This Mind which was in Christ Jesus is the Love that is infinite, more than equipped to remove all human lack or need. God and His spiritual ideas inevitably provide daily supplies, and provide them bounteously. How can allness supply less than all? Divine Love meets human needs through forever knowing its own all-inclusiveness. If Deity ever knew such an iniquitous thing as a human need—lack of good, wisdom, satisfaction, joy, health, or supply—it could never meet that need, but would perpetuate it ad infinitum.
